Video Review: The Sufferfest – Elements of Style

A Tweet from training video publishers The Sufferfest last week calling for reviews of their latest release, Elements of Style, provided an opportunity to delve in to the sadistic world of indoor cycle training…or so I thought. Despite The Sufferfest proudly touting their cherished roots in “PAIN, AGONY and MISERY,” apparently “this film is unlike any other Sufferfest video. If you go into it expecting to Suffer, you’ll be disappointed as that’s not what it’s about.”

Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Denim Aficionado

An excellent documentary about the life of Marco Pantani was released in May this year. It chronicled Il Pirata’s rise to the top of professional road cycling in the 1990s and the cocaine-fuelled demise that ultimately led to his lonely death in a hotel not far from an enclaved microstate known as the Most Serene Republic of San Marino – seriously, that’s actually an official title. Although the film, Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Cyclist, chiefly deals with depression, drugs, scandal, corruption and passion for cycling, when you start scratching below the surface, an intriguing subplot emerges about one man's profound love of denim.

Time Trial Bike Soiree

Back in 2012 a very popular bicycle video called Road Bike Party was making the rounds on the Internet. It follows mountain bike trials rider Martyn Ashton on his new road bike route: “It’s certainly not conventional, but it should be a lot of fun.” It’s definitely worth a look because it features something that you don’t see very often—a top-of-the-line carbon road bike with flat pedals.
